Guidelines

Business must be in District 3

The business must be a for-profit business

In operation for at least 2 consecutive years

Must have less than 7 full-time employees 

A physical address is required. PO Boxes are not accepted. 

All Supporting documentation must be provided 

  • W-9
  • County and Municipal Local Business Tax Certificate (LBT) 
  • Applicable licenses ( Cosmatology, Food Service, etc) 
  • Copy of Sunbiz 
  • Business Photos 
  • Receipts for eligible purchases beginning January 1, 2025, through March 24, 2025

Gather Your Documents 

Step 1: Identify Your County Commissioner

  • Visit the "Meet Your Commissioners" page: https://www.miamidade.gov/commission/
  • Enter your address in the "Who is my Commissioner?" box.
  • Ensure your commissioner is Keon Hardemon (District 3). If not, apply through your specific commissioner's program.

Step 2: Capture Your Business's Shine: Photo Submissions

  • Must include photos of the interior and exterior (include building number to reflect the business address) 
  • Include product shots and capture the atmosphere, team, and customers.
  • Feature customer testimonials, volunteer activities, or relevant initiatives
  • Highlight your unique selling proposition and community involvement.
  • Use a variety of angles and perspectives to keep it engaging.

Step 3: Obtain a Current Government-Issued Photo ID

Step 4: Verify Your Business License

  • Please ensure you have a current LBT and provide copies for the last two fiscal years (2023 and 2024) and the current year (2025).
  • All Miami-Dade County businesses require a Local Business Tax Receipt (LBT). For more information, visit: Local Business Tax Receipt
  • You may also need a separate LBT license if your business is in a municipality. Check these links:.

  • If exempt, providing official documentation is required. 

IF YOUR BUSINESS DOES NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED BUSINESS TAX LICENSE (LBT/BTR), YOUR BUSINESS WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE 

Step 5: Obtain a Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN)

Step 6: Verify Your Business Registration

  • Your business must be registered with the state of Florida on SunBiz.
  • Check your registration status: https://dos.myflorida.com/sunbiz/search/
  • Submit a copy of your active State of Florida Corporation and/or Fictitious Name. In addition, a FEIN # must be listed on the Sunbiz printout if the business is incorporated. If not, provide a copy of the business IRS letter 147c or SS4  (showing business FEIN #).

Step 7: Are you a Miami-Dade employee and/ or Board Appointee? 

  • An elected official, Government Board Appointmentee, and/or Miami-Dade County employee must get written approval from the Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics stating no conflict of interest. 
  • Miami Dade County Employees must include proof of approval from the Department Director for outside employment through INFORMS.

Step 8: Eligible Funding Uses

  • Submit supporting documentation, such as expense receipts or proof of payment, demonstrating expenditures equal to the requested grant amount. These documents must be dated from "January 1 to March 24, 2025."

• Inventory / Supplies 

• Business Equipment 

• Marketing / Advertising 

• Liability Insurance 

• Minor Interior / Exterior Renovations 

• Security System (for commercial properties only) 

• Work Vehicle (pick-up truck or cargo van) must be registered in the business name 

• Professional Services (Accounting, Business Training, Seminars, and events)
